Welcome to our Cowboy Music page. If
you're expecting Reba, Brooks and Dunn, Garth Brooks, or any of the other
modern country music stars of today they ain't here!
Now, please don't take that wrong, as these talented and successful stars
along with many others are "Country Music" as we know it today. What you will
find is "Western Music" which in my opinion is more closely related to what we
called Country Music when I was a kid. Music evolves with time and each
generation has its on style so to speak. I can't stand Rap, my grand children
like it. My dad couldn't stand Elvis and I loved it. My dad liked Tommy Dorsey
and I couldn't stand that type of music. My Grandpa liked the real old Country
Music such as the Carter Family and had he lived long enough wouldn't have
liked Elvis and probably not Tommy Dorsey. Country Music as we know it today
evolved from the music of people like the Carter family, Uncle Dave Macon and
others. It seems to me Blue Grass had its roots there too and I like Blue
Grass as well. In the days of the old west a good fiddler probably never had
to buy a drink in the local saloon and was considered an important part of any
Wagon Train. The songs they wrote and sang way back there were in some cases
history of the old west set to music. We will be adding more "Western Music"
in the future and even some of "Grandpa's Music" as well. We hope you enjoy
some of the pictures of the old time musicians that we have on this page.
Remember, they started it all...................Tom Bob

Steve Trawick and
Cotton Nixon We are proud to call these two accomplished musicians our friends and wanted you to have a little back ground on them. Cotton Nixon is 85 years young and can still "tear the fiddle up". After the war he teamed up with a cousin, Fuzzy Owens ( who now manages Merle Haggard) to form a country western group. He has spent most of his adult life playing fiddle for some of the biggest names in country music. Cotton was a regular on the Louisiana Hayride in Shreveport, LA. where he played with the Maddox bros. and Rose, Slim Whitman, the Wilburn bros., and Faron Young to name a few. He has played with or worked show dates with the likes of Bob Wills, Jim Reeves, Red Sovine, Marty Robbins, Loretta Lynn, David Houston, and Willie Nelson. Cotton can tell funny road stories for hours. His partner Steve Trawick began playing rhythm guitar in a family band at the age of thirteen. The family played at the Ozark Folk center, Silver Dollar City, Eureka Springs, and many other places and events. Steve fronted for a band called The New Southern Edition playing all over north central Arkansas. Steve is now the music director at a Baptist church. This is Steve and Cotton's first CD which consists of twelve songs they either wrote outright themselves or had a hand in writing. I hope you'll buy a copy as I'm sure you will enjoy it! These two guys are unique! If you'd like them to perform at your next event just send us an email. |
